About the Musical
‘Community Choir: The Musical’ is a heartwarming and hilarious show set in Brisbane, where a quirky community choir finds itself thrust into the spotlight when they're accidentally invited to compete in Sydney's prestigious National Choral Competition.
Their initial excitement is tempered by internal conflicts and personal dilemmas. As they grapple with song choices, rivalries, and hidden secrets, their journey takes a fantastical turn with the arrival of the flamboyant “Spirit of the Song”. Only one unlikely choir member can see this enigmatic character, who has the magical ability to reveal the people's deepest truths and fears.
With a mix of humour, drama, and original, catchy music, the show explores themes of unity, love, and self-discovery. As the choir members confront their personal and collective challenges, they must come together to seize their moment in the spotlight and find harmony both on and off the stage.
9 original songs + 1 reprise
Show time approximately 70-80 mins with no interval
Show features lead roles (Northside and Southside cast) + 100 piece choir (Northside and Southside choir) - more details on the choir to come
Audition Registrations
The Cheep Trill team is on the hunt for non-professional performers to play 16 lead roles (8 from our Northside cast and 8 from our Southside cast) in our community musical to be performed in September 2025.
Who do we consider a non-professional performer? Someone who is not making/has not made, part or all of their living from performing. This is a community theatre production and like most community theatre productions, there is a fee to participate. You will not be paid for your performance. ‘Community Choir: The Musical’ is our way of giving folks who are not in the ‘performing arts world’ every day a chance to experience a taste of the spotlight – a little bit of razzle dazzle.
To register for an audition (we advise you sign up quickly - limited spots available):
1) review the Audition Information Pack, Character List and date/cost commitment: https://www.cheeptrill.com/s/Audition-Information-Pack.pdf
